 AMEX Centurion Suite
at the US Open

For the 2018 renovations to the Louis Armstrong Stadium at the US Open in Queens, NY, Roadwerx was asked to transform a 3,000 square foot raw space into an iconic and exclusive Centurion Lounge for American Express.

As they enter, guests are greeted with elements that make it immediately recognizable as a Centurion Lounge, such as a bi-level marble and blue-stained wood Member Services reception desk and a polished stainless steel grid filled with moss that creates a unique live wall. Custom wall panels routed with the AMEX World Service pattern give the illusion of stamped concrete along the back wall. A large, three-dimensional metal American Express logo that is powder coated to match the brand’s signature color wraps the corner behind the desk.

Inside the suite, there are two distinct areas. One is a lounge space to take a relaxing break from the heat and crowds, and the other is a full service bar and buffet at which to enjoy a signature beverage or snack before heading back out the courts. The centerpiece of the lounge is a twelve-foot high media wall that houses an 85-inch monitor, a device charging station, and routed art panels painted AMEX’s signature blue. A deluxe feature of the lounge is a large outdoor terrace that allows guests to enjoy the summer weather and atmosphere while still being connected to the interior amenities. A glass paneled railing with AMEX branding was installed so as not to impede guests’ views, and the terrace floor is tiled to match the interior design.

The highlight of the suite’s bar is a stunning custom u-shaped counter faced with hexagonal mosaic tile and topped with four-inch thick black marble.  Guests can sit at the bar or at the counter along the window wall and enjoy their refreshments while gazing out over the US Open grounds. The window wall’s tonal graphic treatment adds another dimension of branding inside the suite, and also allows visitors out on the grounds to see the branding and identify it as an exclusive Centurion Suite.

Continuing the luxe look, the restrooms’ floor and walls are completely faced in three distinct ceramic tile styles. From the chevron patterned slate gray underfoot, to the oversized brick stacked wall tile and the kaleidoscope patterned accent wall, these restrooms were designed to impress. Custom made wooden stall doors and a white stone trough sink complete the furnishings.
